Like you, I remember all too clearly the events of that horrific day. I watched in disbelief as one unbelievable event after another unfolded, all the while hoping it was a nightmare from which I would awaken to find it had all been a dream. But it wasn't a dream. It was all too true. When I think about the timeline of that day, it's almost incomprehensible to me how quickly everything happened. Only about an hour-and-a-half elapsed from the time the first plane hit the South Tower (an "accident" most of us probably thought at the time) to the time the fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania.

Time has not dimmed my memories or feelings of horror, grief and helplessness. I know I will never forget how our world changed that day. I don't want to forget, not really. Because to do so would be a disservice to those whose lives were lost and those who've had to live every day with the loss of a loved one. So many lives cut short too soon. Too many dreams for the future unrealized. So much pain and griefand anger. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been for those who lost someone to find the strength to go on. I keep them in my thoughts and heart now and always.

This tribute will remain for as long as my web site is active. I dedicate it to everyone whose life was impacted by this brutal act of terrornot only in America but wherever they may be around the world. Too often this event is perceived as "an American tragedy", but it directly impacted the lives of the citizens of more than 90 countries.

This is one way I can honor the countless heroes of that day and of all the days which have followed. I may not have lost someone I knew or loved, but my world was forever changed nevertheless. And . . . I WILL NEVER FORGET.

Tears For The Heroes And Victims

This drawing was published on the editorial page of my local Alabama newspaper shortly after September 11th. It had a tremendous emotional impact on me and wanted to share it with others.

Never Forget

The NYFD lost a total of 343 firefighters and their chaplain; 75 of the city's firehouses lost at least one of their own.

Near the snow, near the sun, in the highest fields
See how these names are feted by the waving grass
And by the streamers of white cloud
And whispers of wind in the listening sky.
The names of those who in their lives fought for life
Who wore at their hearts the fire's centre.
Born of the sun they travelled a short while towards the sun,
And left the vivid air signed with their honour.

Pentagon 9-11 Memorial - Dedicated on September 11, 2008

The Pentagon memorial to the victims of 9-11 was officially dedicated on the seventh anniversary of the attack, beginning at the exact moment of the attack.

In a park-like setting, 184 metal benches are arranged in parallel rows which trace the exact axis of American Airlines Flight 77's path into the west facade of the Pentagon building. Each bench bears the engraved name of one of the victims. Underneath each bench is a small pool of water which will be lit by a lamp at night. Eventually the area will be covered by an overhead canopy of mature red maple trees.

Benches representing the 59 passengers on the plane (excluding the five hijackers) point toward the building; benches for the 125 people who died in the building point in the opposite direction. The benches are arranged in the order of the ages of the victims (3 to 71).
