He
stood in snow white splendor
Among the leaves of green,
Eyes of rich brown velvet,
The most beautiful ever seen.
A
faint trace of a spiral
Around a silvery horn.
Was I dreaming or did I really see
A
unicorn?
A
creamy beard softly hung
From off his shapely chin.
An
ivory flowing mane and tail
Blew gently in the wind.
He
slowly raised his head, to gaze
With eyes of mystic wonder.
My
mind was caught in the magic spell
His presence cast me under.
Then suddenly with a toss of his head
And a flash of pearly hooves,
I
stood, spellbound, as he disappeared
Into the silent woods.
Legend says only young maidens
Can see his lovely form.
But I know I wasn't dreaming when I saw
The unicorn.

A silvery figure with a flashing
horn,
Light-stepping emblem of shining love,
If only we knew how to follow in the hoof steps,
Come join me, he says, fly high as the dove,
Over the sadness and set your heart free,
Revel in starlight and know that you've seen,
No illusion, but a unicorn under the trees.
Open your mind to the magic that's true
Find a unicorn, it's right inside you.

Tell me of the unicorn, they say,
He has never appeared during my day,
Evening either, at the sun's dying rays.
Unknowingly asking an impossible thing,
None can describe the unicorn seen,
If only they could try to believe in themselves,
Could try to imagine this being that's been,
Open their minds and their hearts as well,
Run in the starlight, the unicorn at their side,
Now they could have known who the unicorn is.

Run
Felevah, run away!
You are free once more.
The mountains you soar,
Up there in the unfriendly cold.
Feel warmth and think of moonbeam pools
To remind you of home.
Thrash though the trees and race
Through the river,
Here and there with so much skill,
With so much grace
Faster Felevah faster!
Like the wings of the hummingbird,
Fast and steady.
Think not of the pain
That is slowly coveting your soul.
Be soundless,
Like the whisper in my ear
When a butterfly dies.
Hear not the yells or the crunching leaves,
So violent sounding.
Block away from those beautiful eyes
The torches, the spears, the fire
In their eyes, greed burns.
They are coming after you,
To capture you,
To use you,
To kill you.
You
are near now Felevah!
Dare not turn back!
Look not into my pleading eyes!
Feel not again my touch.
Hear no longer my weeping voice.
Here from my side,
You cannot linger.
Forget me not Felevah!
Even when paradise is yours.
When the periwinkle mingles with lavender,
A swift breeze to pass,
Wafting the perfume to you,
Remember once the maiden
Who you left,
Who's heart to you
Still clings tightly.
I shall
think of you, Felevah.
How the world is not ready for you.
How it is not fitting for a creature
Such as you.
These beasts who hunger to take you away from me.
Deep in my heart I tried to keep you,
Protect you.
But these animals can never understand.
You must make yourself extinct to the eyes
Of man once more.
We shall never meet again,
But that is best.
Yet when I shall be in dire need of you,
I shall sing to the moon,
Let drift upon the water a bouquet of flowers,
And tirelessly chase the end of the rainbow,
With strange hope to see you.
As for now, your majesty is my secret.

We were
traveling north to sing and play
Clouds overhead warned of rain all day.
We'd worked
hard all week and didn't sleep,
The ride was quiet, I fell asleep.
I dreamed
that there were unicorns
I dreamed I
saw them wild and white,
Their sudden
beauty lit the world
like the brightest star on a winter's night.
Pure as love
with manes of milk
They danced
and pranced and cried aloud,
bright as rainbows round the stars.
Their eyes
were soft and sad, but proud.

I wept for
the wild and dirty world,
To which this beauty now was lost.
I cursed the
hungry mind of man
That feeds the future at such cost.
My head was
bowed, my eyes were closed
When in my ears their voices rang,
And these few
words lodged deep inside
My very soul as their voices sang.
We never
really went away.
You always knew that we were here.
Remember how
to look for us,
You'll see that we were always near.
I raised my
head to seek them out,
The world was empty all around,
The rain was
falling from the sky
It drowned all dreams upon the ground.
And when they
asked me why I wept
Like one who for his loved ones mourns,
The only
answer I could give
"I dreamed that there were unicorns."

I hear
thunder over the land.
I look at the sky, there's no clouds in the sky.
Quiet creeps over me.
Then on the horizon I see a unicorn!

The thunder starts again as he gallops towards me.
He gets on his knees and I jump on his back
And we ride into the heavens together.

Oh, my Beloved Child, He has
chosen you.
You, above all others for you see . . .
His time has come too.
Get on the back of greatness,
With a crystal horn and gossamer wings of silver.
Those hooves were made for running
Along a galaxy which goes on forever.
Those eyes look sad—
Yet a flame burns too.
This noble steed has strength enough;
Enough strength to carry you.
"Here my Darling,"
I boost you into the saddle.
Your Guardian stands up tall;
He's seen enough of battle.
It is said that heaven lies amongst the constellations
And that everyone must find it someday.
My Dear One, that's why he has come—
To take you to a place where the sun graces each day.
Don't fear Little One
He will guide you with his grace.
You will not slip or fall,
He shall lead you to that wondrous place.

Daddy will be there, of that I am sure.
He has waited for this date.
He will scoop you into his arms and hug you
When you meet at the Golden Gate.
Wipe those tears from your eyes.
My Sweet Child, I will see you soon!
One day, I promise you,
Together we'll soar to the moon.
Goodbye my Star Rider.
Starlight shines in your angel's mane,
This great one grows impatient,
It's time to walk down the starry lane.

Those who listen hear the whispers in the wind;
and those who speak experience freshness upon their tongue.
A sea of serenity comforts those who fear;
and those who boldly go are tempered by the wisdom of caution.
Those who reach out feel the caress of the morning dew;
and those who hesitate discover a wisp of optimism in the air.
Those who fumble about find assurance in the twinkle of a star;
and those who forge ahead gaze upon the mountain crest.
The
iridescent waters quench those who thirst;
and those who live in abundance share their spirit with the fallen.
Those who are weary gather strength from the gleam of the sun;
and those who possess no limits find temperance at dusk.

Those who wander aimlessly find guidance in the stars;
and those who have direction reach out with a benevolent hand.
Those who hunger for knowledge learn from errors made;
and the universe will humble those who strut in arrogance.
Infant's tears quench those who burn yearning for truth;
and those who dry the infant's tears learn unconditional love.
Those who hide in shadows of denial never see the edge is worn;
and despondency plagues those who long for the mystical unicorn.

Like a flower bud ready to unfold,
the Unicorn's secret is yet untold.

It's horn as white as a snowdrop flower,
and it's eyes as blue as an April shower.

Small hands clasp
as we gaze upon the
fairy pony,
white wings spread wide
like huge white
feathers,
ready to take flight.

Special these moments,
sharing the same dream
as if we were one
heart,
one soul,
one being.
Burning this image,
this
memory of delight,
into
our very soul.
The
child within
knows the truths in fairy tales.
Others will grow old
as
days pass them by
while visions dance in our heads
of
flights of the fairy steeds.
Seen
only through these child's eyes.

Her golden voice, her silver hair
And emeralds in place of eyes
How I long for her, the only mare
Whose singing voice was Paradise.
I met her on a summer day
We looked surprised at one another
But within hours we would play
And no one seemed to bother.

Before we knew it, a year had passed
And friendship had turned to love
We knew we'd grown up all too fast
But we told everyone about our love.
But they had rules: As I was a horse
And she was - like them - a Unicorn
Our love was wrong, and to make it worse
They made me leave, for I had no horn.
It's been years since our good-bye kiss
It was our last and only choice
But there's no day where I don't miss
The sparkling music of her golden voice.
I still love her, despite the pain
And my only dream is now to say
That it will not be in vain
When I hope that maybe ... someday ...
We'll be together, and I shall hear
Those words of a heavenly voice
And me, I know I'll shed a tear
To the tender sound of her golden voice.

(A Poem by Shel Silverstein©
-- recorded by the Irish Rovers)
A long time ago, when the Earth was green
There was more kinds of animals than you've
ever seen
They'd run around free while the Earth was
being born
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn.
There was . . .
Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but
sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn.
The Lord seen some sinning and it gave
Him pain
And He says, "Stand back, I'm going to make
it rain"
He says, "Hey Noah, I'll tell you what to
do
Build me a floating zoo, and take some of those . . .
Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but
sure as you're born
Don't you forget My unicorns."
Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the
rain started to fall
He marched the animals two by two
And he called out as they came through
"Hey Lord,
I've got green alligators and long-necked
geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but
Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just can't find no unicorns."
And
Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them
unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking
and splashing while the rain was falling
Oh, them
silly unicorns!
There was . . .
Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, "Close the door because the
rain is falling
And we just can't wait for no unicorns."
The ark started moving, it drifted with
the tide
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and
they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated
them away
That's why you never see unicorns to this
very day.
You'll see . . .
Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but
sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorn!
