The Story Behind The Unicorn Calendar

"These unicorns came to be because of my Mom, Claire Befera. She always believed in me, marveled at the unicorns I was creating and the idea of doing 12 of them and getting a calendar published.

"Each of my little beasts is all at once a friend and a slice of the last months with my Mom before she mystified me by dying on December 7, 2006. I completed 11 unicorns before she died.

"I named the last unicorn Claire. She was inspired by the flock of chickadees that gathered spontaneously to sing for my Mom the day she was buried.

"My amazing Mother Claire inspired me to create the 2008 Unicorn Art Calendar."

I've added this section because I know how hard unicorn calendars are to find. I'm always looking for more of them myself. When Gina contacted me to ask if her unicorns could join those at Mystical Unicorn, I took one look at them and said "Yes, most definitely! They will be right at home here."

I absolutely love how she's envisioned them. She told me they were "edgier" than most unicorns, and that's certainly true. But I think they still evoke all the mystery and wonder of these wondrous, mysterious creatures.
